Supported browsers
Digital Library keeps everything on your device, encrypted with a key derived from your passphrase. That needs three browser features, and there is deliberately no weaker fallback if one is missing: WebCrypto, IndexedDB, and a secure (HTTPS) connection. Offline use also needs service workers, but Digital Library still works online without them.
Supported
The current and previous major versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari, on desktop, Android, and iOS/iPadOS. Older browsers may work but are not tested.
Known limits you should plan for
Your data can be evicted. Browsers may delete a site's stored data under storage pressure or after a long period of inactivity, and Safari is the strictest about this. Clearing site data, using a private/incognito window, or switching to a different browser profile also means your library will not be there. Digital Library asks the browser to keep its storage persistent, but that is a request, not a promise. Export a backup regularly and keep it somewhere safe. Digital Library tries to notice when its data has gone missing and says so, but that check is best-effort: clearing all site data can remove the evidence too.
No recovery. If you forget your passphrase, no one can recover your library, including the people who made this app.
Each browser keeps its own library. Moving to another browser or device means exporting a backup and importing it there.
